I'm not usually one for brands. I like what I like and have been promiscuous with my shopping over the years. But a couple of years ago on my first trip to New York I discovered Kate Spade New York and now I really can't get enough of the fabulous accessories.
For those of you who haven't come across the brand, founder Kate Spade launched her fashion house in New York in 1993, initially focussing on stylish but functional handbags as she had noticed a gap in the market. These quickly became popular so driven by success Spade extended the brand to include stationery, shoes, accessories and apparel, opening her first flagships store in Manhattan in 1996.
For me I simply love the quirky slogans, graphic prints and vibrant colours which are emcompassed by the strapline "Live Colorfully', with a playful charm. Its a luxury brand so you are going to have to treat yourself but the range is so individual that every piece will stand out in your wardrobe.
Over the last few years I have been extremely lucky to be able to build up a collection of some great items. My first purchase was a classic black purse, I was then spoilt and given a handbag, purse and passport holder at my hen and more recently on my last trip to NYC I bought a beautiful scarf printed with a map of Manhattan.
The piece de resistance though is a clutch bag in the design of a piano keybord which I bought on honeymoon in Vegas - I simply adore it! And here's the thing - there is just something about the simplicity and uniqueness of the brand that keeps eyes always on the next purchase... next time it's a pair of multi glitter shoes. I better get saving!
